Maize is a crop with a huge biomass yield, which places high demands on water and mineral nutrients. The greatest risk to current cultivation is summer heatwaves during the flowering and grain-filling stages. If the soil is unable to retain moisture and make nutrients available, this leads to significant yield losses.

The solution? Applying HUMAC® Agro before maize sowing alters the soil’s physical and chemical properties. Activated humic acids stimulate the growth of secondary roots, thereby increasing the surface area available for the uptake of water and nutrients. At the same time, they stabilise nitrogen and phosphorus in the soil, thereby preventing their loss and ensuring a gradual supply to the plant.

of HUMAC® Agro act as a natural rooting stimulant. A deeper and denser root system not only draws moisture more effectively from lower soil layers, but also ensures greater plant stability, preventing uprooting during summer storms.

By improving the soil’s water-holding capacity, HUMAC® helps maize to withstand critical periods without rainfall. The plant does not lose turgor and is able to maintain photosynthesis even at higher temperatures, which is crucial for the final thousand-grain weight (TGW).

Humic acids bind applied fertilisers into forms that are readily available to maize, whilst at the same time protecting them from leaching. This makes it possible to optimise the application rates of nitrogen and, in particular, phosphorus, which is often locked up in the soil.

Maize cultivation often leads to the degradation of soil humus. HUMAC® Agro supplies the soil with concentrated carbon and organic matter, thereby supporting soil life and improving soil workability for subsequent crops.

Dosage

The key to success is applying the product before maize
sowing. You will achieve the best results by working the product into the soil profile, where the main mass of roots will develop.

Standard application rate: 200–500 kg/ha (depending on soil quality and the previous crop).
Method of application: Broadcast application followed by incorporation (subsoiling, pre-sowing preparation) to a depth of 10–20 cm.
Timing: Ideally in early spring, during pre-sowing soil preparation.
Certification: The product is authorised for use in organic crop production (BIO).
